Always one looking to help others, Tess joins us in her role as The Trans Resource Support Coordinator to continue her journey in supporting her community. A few years ago, after finally arriving in a workplace where she could be herself, she leveraged her privilege, drive, and spirit to become a community leader, and fight for Trans equity improvements. It’s had a big impact, taken her places, and put her in contact with activists she has a profound respect for. She has worked tirelessly to change healthcare for the gender marginalized, both in her workplace and beyond, and continues to work to reduce barriers in accessing Gender Affirming Care for folk. Her passion for helping others comes from a place of deep empathy, and with trust in her, she will do her utmost to support you.

Tess’ Favourite Quote:

One of my favourite quotes is from J.R.R. Tolkien, in Lord of the Rings:

The phrase “Not all those who wander are lost” is part of a poem written by Bilbo Baggins about Aragorn in The Fellowship of the Ring. The poem describes Aragorn’s true identity as the rightful king of Gondor and the strength hidden behind his humble and wandering guise.

The full stanza goes:
“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”

Bilbo wrote this verse as a tribute to Aragorn’s noble heritage and enduring spirit.

  • I’ve always been an avid gamer, whether it be on consoles or PC, from the Atari to the Switch 2.  I relish the immersion, and often escaped to other worlds when I was younger.  These days it’s more of a social hobby, which I use to connect with friends near and far.

  • My biggest accomplishment in advocacy so far has been helping develop and implement Gender-Affirming Benefits with B.C.’s largest health insurer, Pacific Blue Cross, impacting over 1.7 million PBC clients provincially.  My journey continues, and I hope to make an even greater impact soon with what’s cooking.

  • My dream travel destination presently is Japan, somewhere I haven’t been since I was on a high school exchange trip as a teen.  Don’t worry, I’m making plans to go soon though!
